The Role of The Governing Body
All schools in England have a Governing Body which is responsible for overseeing many of the strategic decisions of the school. A key role is to act as a ‘critical friend’: to support, to challenge, to ask questions, ultimately to represent the school community.
The Governing Body works in close partnership with the headteacher, staff and the Academy Trust. Whilst the headteacher is, of course, responsible for the day to day running of the school, the governors are involved with such things as staffing, curriculum, school buildings and finance.
It ensures the school functions well and maintains the proper range of academic and social objectives.
Main Governors’ meetings are held once a term including Full Governing Body meetings and Curriculum meetings which monitors and evaluates the standards of learning and teaching and the impact that the school makes on children’s achievement and attainment. The Governing Body monitors how the school ensures that we achieve our national and locally set targets and the targets that we set ourselves.
Our Governing Body
Dave Crook - (Chair of Governors) - Trust - [Governor responsibility for Pupil Premium]- David has served as a governor of the School for the past eight years. During this time he has undertaken a variety of responsibilities. During his forty years service in education he held range of teaching and management roles in various parts of the country. Prior to his retirement he served for twelve years as Deputy Principal to one of the largest further education colleges in the Eastern Region.
Neil Mindham - Headteacher - Mr Mindham has several years of experience working in senior leadership roles in a variety of primary settings, including an executive position over three schools within the West Norfolk Academies Trust. Mr Mindham has been Headteacher of Gaywood Primary since October 2017.
Sue Lunnun - Trust - Retired, successful Primary Headteacher for 16 years including the last 7 years as an Executive Head. Sue was involved in a number of National College for School Leadership programmes including being a Consultant Leader on Primary Leadership programmes and an accredited School Improvement Partner. She is currently a Schools’ Support Officer for the Norwich Diocese, working with a number of local Church schools.
Carly West-Burnham - Trust Appointed Governor - [Governor responsibility for Curriulum]- Carly has recently been appointed as a Parent Governor at Gaywood Primary. Her desire to be involved with the school stems from the belief that all stakeholders have a role to play in ensuring that all children get the best education and opportunities whilst at school to enable them to grow, develop and reach their potential. Carly has two daughters currently in the school and lives and works locally.
Katie Docherty - Trust Appointed Governor - [Governor responsibility for Safeguarding and Prevent] - Katie has 12 years experience in Social Housing and enjoys working in a sector where she can make a positive impact on peoples’ lives. Katie believes that Social Value is effected by the experiences children have during their school years and wants to be able influence the success of the school so its pupils can reach their full potential. Katie has a particular interest in Safeguarding and brings experience from her working role to ensure the school is compliant and proactive in managing Safeguarding.
Helen Payne - Staff Governor - Helen has worked at Gaywood Primary for nine years and has worked in a wide range of different schools, starting her career in London. Helen loves working at Gaywood Primary as says that she finds the children, staff and parents to be very friendly and supportive. Helen is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities this role of staff governor brings. She loves working with children and wants to do whatever is in her power to ensure them the best start in life.
Peter Cuss - Trust Appointed Governor - Peter currently works at Springwood High School at a Head of Year and Teacher of Music. During his eight years of working in a secondary school environment, Peter has been a part of the primary to secondary transition process and has experience of leading a year group from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4. Peter has the role of Pupil Premium Governor.
Stuart Newman - Parent Governor - Stuart is a successful local businessman working in the private sector. He believes that all children deserve the opportunity to flourish and succeed within the education system. Stuart has a particular interest in music and sport. He lives locally and has a son currently in the school.

WNAT Board of Trustees
Responsibility for all the academies that make up West Norfolk Academies Trust and for providing education in those academies is entrusted to the Board of Trustees.
The Board of Trustees have overall accountability for all the schools within the trust and manage all finances (including audits), premises and personnel areas, via sub committees. Work is also delegated to our local governing body whose assistance is greatly valued and supported by the Trustees.
